Five Effective Ways To Keep Your Website Visitors Coming Back

If your business has a website, you know the importance of traffic. Not just new traffic, but return traffic. Return traffic is more important traffic. The more exposure a visitor has to your website, and therefore your company, the more trust and reliability are built up. All concerns over credibility decrease with each returning visit. So, the more a visitor returns to your site, the easier they are to convert to a buying customer. So, how do you get visitors to keep coming back? Here are 5 important tips:

1) Start a forum and/or chat room

A forum and/or chat room allows you to provide a place where your visitors can interact with peers, share their opinions and ask questions. As more and more people visit and participate in your forums and chat rooms, a sense of community builds. As topics of conversation begin to take place, people will come back to your site regularly to participate.

2) Start your own web log (a.k.a. blog)

A blog is like an online journal associated with your website or business. Update your blog as often as possible with updates and the latest news on you and your business. People are curious creatures by nature and they will keep checking in on you if you post frequent updates. I post to our blog 3 to 4 times a week with fresh articles and/or news about our company. This keeps your site fresh and also keeps your customers up to date on what you are doing in your business. A blog also helps build credibility with your visitors and lets them know there is a human person behind the website, making it more “friendly”.

3) Post polls or/or surveys

Polls and surveys are another way to interact with your visitors. They can be used to get your customer’s opinion on things related to your business or your website. Target your polls to match your audience. These polls and surveys can be very valuable to you. Post the results of the polls and surveys on your website or in your blog as they are taking place. People will come back to visit to see the results.

4) Host a regular contest

We at United Entrepreneurs’ hold a monthly giveaway. A visitor must visit and register once a month to be eligible for that month’s giveaway. We make it a pretty valuable prize, it has to be worth their effort. But this money is well-spent as it brings us regular return customers and makes our site more valuable to our members. True, this only brings members back a minimum of once a month. But, if you place something on your entry form page or in a entry confirmation email, you can keep them engaged regularly.

5) Keep your website content fresh

Never let your website become stagnant. Your visitors will know if your website is being updated or not. If they don’t see any new information or other additions to the website, they won’t come back. Add new articles, polls, surveys, pictures or video. But, make sure the content is also of some true value. If you provide regular, valuable content, your visitors will return. This is the most effective way to get visitors to return. It also helps increase your rankings in the search engines. But the content must be unique, not just copies of somebody else’s articles or information. Just like our blog, we add new content in the form of articles or videos several times a week.

Follow the above 5 tips and you will not only see your visitors returning, but you will also see and increase in overall sales as your visitors grow to trust you.

To your success…
